About the Author
Dr. Penley is an author, speaker, scholar, and professor. But don't worry. He still knows how to crack a joke. Dr. Penley studied Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic in undergraduate and graduate programs at Columbia International University. He researched the Bible in German and French and travelled to Israel, Egypt, Turkey and Greece as he completed a Ph.D. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. His specialty is the historical context of Jesus and the Gospels. T&T Clark (London) published the pinnacle of his academic research, but you are likely to run into his articles in RELEVANT magazine or blogs posted by groups like CATALYST or Scot McKnight's Jesus Creed.
As a professor, he has taught college and seminary courses on Biblical interpretation, Jesus and the Gospels, and Bible Backgrounds. He loves watching students experience the thrill of finally understanding the mission of Jesus behind his actions and words in first-century Israel. Dr. Penley doesn’t want the message to get stuck in college courses or academic circles so he shares at church and retreats, at Bible conference centers and summer programs. He talks about it over dinner, on the radio and with every interested audience. However, people still ask how they can get more. That’s why he writes.
